#shoplifting #bodycam #policearrest A shoplifting suspect tries to run from a store, is brought back to the office by an officer, and immediately asks to call her mother and get to her kids. This bodycam footage follows what happens next, as store staff total up the merchandise and officers check her history with the store. She admits she has been caught shoplifting before and already expects the store to prosecute. Then the trespass notice comes up. She insists she thought the ban lasted one year; the paperwork says two, and it had not expired. She argues the total is under 500 dollars and cannot be a felony, and the count comes back at 100 dollars. Even so, she is told she faces shoplifting and criminal trespass, receives a new ban until January 2026, and leaves in handcuffs for jail. Does misunderstanding the length of a trespass notice matter legally? How does a low dollar amount affect the charge? And why can a misdemeanor still mean a trip to jail?
