It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 1:51 a.m. on June 18, 2022, Officer Teayana McNannay of the Pullman Police spotted a BMW heading west on NE Stadium Way. Its headlights were off. She swung her patrol car around. Lights flashing, she pulled the driver over in the lot at Evergreen Tire and Auto Repair, 300 NE Stadium Way. She stepped out and approached the driver. It was 21-year-old Karly Basham. Karly said she was driving home. As they talked, Officer McNannay smelled alcohol. She noticed other signs of being impaired too. Karly claimed she had not drunk any. Later, though, she admitted to drinks at The Coug that night. Suspicious, Officer McNannay asked Karly to do sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Next was the Walk and Turn. Karly missed heel-to-toe steps there. She also turned the wrong way. For the One Leg Stand, Karly refused to try. After the tests, Karly got a chance for a voluntary PBT. She turned it down. The alcohol smell and poor test performance led Officer McNannay to arrest her for DUI. Handcuffed, Karly rode to the Pullman Police station for booking. There, after chatting with a lawyer, Karly agreed to breath tests. The first pair showed 0.145 and 0.152 BAC. The second hit 0.139 and 0.146. Both were nearly twice the 0.08% limit. Officer McNannay mentioned Karly smelled like marijuana too. They fingerprinted and photographed Karly after some time in a cell. She faced charges under RCW 46.61.502 for DUI.
