The Akron Police received a dispatch to Copley Rd regarding an accident. Upon arrival, officers observed a red Ford Fusion in the ditch by the side of the road. The vehicle had collided with the railing near the Cedar Wings Lounge parking lot. Mrs. Crumrine, the driver and sole occupant, remained inside the vehicle. AFD Med Unit 6 arrived and offered medical assistance, which Crumrine declined, despite having a bloody nose. She couldn't explain the cause of her injury. Officers noticed her slurred speech and detected a strong smell resembling alcoholic beverages emanating from the vehicle. When asked by AFD about her alcohol consumption, Crumrine admitted to drinking excessively. Due to the obstructive position of her vehicle, Crumrine was instructed to exit it. However, she became uncooperative, refusing to comply with lawful commands. Consequently, officers had to physically remove her from the vehicle and detain her. During a search, two one-dollar bills containing a white powder substance were found in Crumrine's pocket, and a clear plastic bag with a similar substance was discovered in her purse, along with her identification. After being informed of her Miranda rights, Crumrine denied ownership of the white powder and claimed ignorance about its nature. She also admitted to consuming alcohol earlier. Based on her statements and other evidence, officers suspected her of driving under the influence. Due to her lack of cooperation, field sobriety tests were deemed unsafe to administer. Crumrine was transported to Akron General Hospital for a medical examination and refused testing at the hospital. Further examination of the white powder substance found on Crumrine tested positive for cocaine. With one prior OVI conviction, she was cleared by the hospital and then taken to Summit County Jail. Crumrine was charged with failure to control her vehicle, OVI, and refusal to submit to a chemical test for OVI.
