#news #police #arrest #cops Report: On August 21, 2022, Officer responded to assist an officer on an accident at the GA-10 Inner Loop exit ramp to DR MLK JR Pkwy. Officers arrived on scene and approached a Nissan Maxima that was involved in the accident. The driver who was later identified as Morgan Adams was sitting in the driver's seat. I spoke to Morgan and asked her what happened regarding the accident. Morgan initially said that she thought the vehicle she hit was turning and didn't realize they were stopping. I asked Morgan to look at me and I could see that her eyes were glossy red. I asked how much she had to drink and she stated she had one tequila shot. She then stated that she was reading and then proceeded to show me an online book on her cellular device. Morgan stated she was coming from Oglethorpe Garage and was headed home. Officer had Morgan step out of the vehicle and step to the rear of her vehicle. When I had her step out away from her vehicle I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. I asked her again how much she had to drink, she now stated she had two drinks. She stated she had whiskey and a tequila shot contradicting her last statement. She also stated her last shot was approximately an hour ago. I asked her what time it is and she stated 2 am, the current time was 1:20 am. She stated that she was in downtown Athens first and visited two bars, Cutters and Boars Head, then went to Oglethorpe Garage. Morgan consented to take voluntary standardized field sobriety tests. During HGN: I was able to observe a lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes. When attempting to look for distinct nystagmus at maximum deviation Morgan kept staring off into the distance and not following my stimulus. I instructed her multiple times to keep her head straight and follow my stimulus but she was showing extreme difficulty for minutes to the point we were making no progress during the test. During Walk and Turn: Morgan could not get into the instructional phase to begin the test. She was swaying, stepping off the line, and when she finally could get into the instructional position, she could not hold it for more than 20 seconds. Morgan stated to me that she wasn't sober and stated "even if I was sober I still couldn't do this". She also stated I know I'm going to jail it's fine. I spent approximately 7 minutes just trying to get her into the Instructional position. Due to making no progress, I decided to move on to the next test. One leg stand: explained the test twice to her and she stated she understood. Whenever Morgan raised her foot she brought It back down due to her losing balance. She brought her foot up and down approximately 5 times and then stopped raising her foot. She just sat there with her hands covering her face for the remainder of the test. At this time, Officer placed Morgan under arrest double-locked behind back read Mogan implied consent and she agreed to give a breath sample. She was transported to the downtown substation where Officer Ramey operated the Intoxilyzer machine. Her results showed a Measured BrAC (Breath Alcohol Content) of 0.273 which is 3 times aver the legal limit of 08 BrAC. Officer transported her to CCSO where she was transferred over to deputies.
