On October 21, 2024, Key West Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident. The reporting party indicated that they observed a vehicle crash into a parked car. When officers arrived, they met with a 35-year-old woman and her husband. Both were visiting the Key West area from Virginia. The woman was driving a rental vehicle when she crashed into the parked car. Officers initiated a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) investigation and asked the woman to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, she was placed under arrest. She was transported to the Monroe County Jail, where she was given multiple attempts to provide two adequate breath samples. Once sample registered 0.162% BAC, but because she could not provide an adequate breath for a second sample, the test was marked as a refusal. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
