The employee reported that the man had attempted to take a pack of cigarettes without paying and was acting erratically. Although the subject claimed he intended to pay, the clerk stated the man had grabbed the item and walked away, prompting the employee to lock the door. Police ran a warrant check and initially intended to issue a summons and release the individual, advising him repeatedly to wait outside and that he would not be allowed to make a purchase. The subject refused to comply, standing at the counter and demanding the cigarettes while ignoring multiple commands to leave. After challenging the officers to arrest him, he was taken into custody.
