Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 3:01 a.m. on December 17, 2022, Officer Jeidy Flores from Crystal Lake Police spotted a wrecked 2013 Hyundai Elantra at Route 31 and Three Oaks Road. She approached the driver, Gloria Ruiz. A quick walk-around showed bad front-end damage and popped airbags from hitting a pole. While talking to Gloria, Flores smelled booze on her breath. Gloria said she left El Diablo Cantina in Carpentersville to head home. She owned up to drinking that night before driving. Officer Zachary Morse showed up to help soon after. First responders from CLFR checked Gloria out. She said no to a hospital trip. The cops suspected she was drunk. They had her step out for sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Morse saw no smooth eye tracking. Nystagmus jerked hard at max turn and started before 45 degrees. Next, the Walk and Turn. Gloria missed heel-to-toe steps. She took the wrong number too. Then, One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. It dropped early. After tests, they offered a Preliminary Breath Test. It clocked her at 0.167% BAC—twice the 0.08% limit. Crash signs, booze smell, her admission, and bad tests led to arrest for DUI. Flores drove Gloria to the station. They read the Warning to Motorist form. She agreed to breath samples. Results hit 0.147%—still over the limit. Gloria skipped Miranda rights and talked to Morse. She confessed to champagne at a Schaumburg sushi spot first. Then two shots plus a cocktail at Firebar in Crystal Lake. Last, a double tequila at El Diablo Cantina. Paperwork done, someone posted $300 cash bond. Gloria went free until court on January 26, 2023.
