REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures the tense moments during a rural Illinois traffic stop that would ultimately result in two injured deputies. This bodycam video documents the early verbal confrontation that preceded a violent physical altercation over drug charges. In this police bodycam footage, 58-year-old Terry Gardner expresses his frustration with the police interaction and reveals his antisocial tendencies: "So, first of all, they wanted me to get outta the car. First of all, she gonna ask me my name and tell me that she don't know me. Hell no, you don't know me. I, I don't want you to know me." This hostile response, captured on the bodycam, establishes Gardner's confrontational attitude from the beginning of the encounter. Gardner continues with a telling statement about his lifestyle: "That's why I stay at home and stay to myself. That's... I don't like motherfucking people." This admission, recorded on police bodycam, provides insight into his mindset and explains his aggressive response to what began as a routine traffic stop for failure to use a turn signal. He then challenges the legitimacy of the stop itself: "Yeah, you stop me for no fuck... Stopped me for no fucking reason... standing right here. Me and her and the police." This denial of lawful cause, documented on bodycam, demonstrates his unwillingness to accept the traffic violation that initiated the contact. According to police reports, this March 13, 2025 traffic stop in rural Sheldon, Illinois escalated dramatically when deputies discovered suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia under Gardner's seat. His resistance to arrest resulted in two deputies being injured, and he attempted to gain control of a deputy's taser. Even after being subdued and taken to jail, Gardner continued to fight with corrections staff and refused standard booking procedures. Gardner was ultimately charged with possession of controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, and attempting to disarm a peace officer. Despite the violent nature of his crimes and injuries to law enforcement, he was mandated to be released under Illinois' SAFE-T Act with a scheduled court date. This police bodycam footage demonstrates how verbal hostility and antisocial attitudes during traffic stops can be early warning indicators of suspects who may escalate to physical violence when faced with arrest.
