On September 5th, 2024, at approximately 1835 hours, the Stuart Police Dept was dispatched to a WAWA store following a report from a complainant about a male appearing intoxicated while seated in the driver's seat of a dark-colored vehicle. The complainant indicated that the individual had difficulty walking after exiting the store and had nearly rear-ended her vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer observed the individual seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which was not running, but the individual had the keys in his pocket. Upon closer inspection, the officer noticed two open containers in the center cup holders and a sealed can in the passenger seat. The individual’s clothing was wet and appeared to be stained, with a strong odor of alcohol present. While speaking with the individual, police noted bloodshot and glassy eyes, along with slurred speech. The individual claimed to feel fine when asked about his condition. However, he struggled to correctly identify the year and location he was in. When asked to exit the vehicle, he lost his balance but was assisted back into his seat. Based on the observations, the officer suspected that the individual’s normal faculties were impaired. The man agreed to perform standard field sobriety tasks, which included the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, the Walk and Turn test, and the One Leg Stand test. Throughout these tasks, he displayed an inability to maintain balance and follow instructions properly. After completing the sobriety evaluation, law enforcement determined there was probable cause to believe the individual was impaired and placed him under arrest. He was transported to the local jail without incident, where he consented to a breath test. The results indicated a blood alcohol level significantly above the legal limit. The deputy also ensured the vehicle was operable before it was towed from the scene. #bodycam #police #cops #bwc #policebodycamera #copcam #copcar #arrest #arrested #bwc The individuals featured in these videos are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
