It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 2:21 AM on August 31, 2024, Deputy Sheriff Jo Peterson from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office spotted a white 2018 Nissan Sentra in the parking lot behind 1442 SR 436 in Casselberry. The car’s reverse lights were still on. He approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, later identified as Kelly. From the moment they made contact, he noticed signs she might be under the influence and saw that both passenger side tires were flat. The rims on that side were also dented. When asked if she had hit anything, Kelly denied it. Deputy Peterson called for backup and began his DUI investigation. Kelly tried to give him her phone number but appeared very confused and couldn’t recall it. As he questioned her, he picked up on more signs of intoxication and smelled alcohol on her breath. She told him she was coming from Room 22, a club in Orlando, and admitted to drinking earlier that night. Because she showed clear signs of impairment, Deputy Peterson asked her to step out of the car to perform field sobriety tests. He started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Next was the Walk and Turn. During this test, Kelly didn’t touch her heel to her toe on each step and took too many or too few steps. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Kelly failed to lift her foot correctly and didn’t keep her arms at her sides. Seeing the damage to her car, her admission of drinking, and her poor performance on the tests, Deputy Peterson decided to arrest Kelly for DUI. She was taken to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility. She agreed to provide breath samples, which showed her BAC was 0.25%. That’s more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. Kelly was charged with DUI under statute 316.193.
