In this incident from New Smyrna Beach, Florida, an officer was already on the scene investigating a hit-and-run crash when he heard the loud exhaust of an approaching vehicle. A white 2024 Ford Mustang was observed passing another car in a no-passing zone while traveling well above the 40 MPH speed limit. The officer walked toward the roadway and continuously held up his hand to signal the driver to stop. Instead of yielding, the driver sped past the officer. Unable to pursue immediately on foot, the officer initiated a search in his patrol vehicle and soon found the Mustang parked and unoccupied in a nearby subdivision, with the hood still warm. A neighborhood canvass led officers to an open garage, where bystanders directed them to the 19-year-old female driver. During questioning, she admitted to seeing the officer on the side of the road and chose to keep driving, attempting to downplay the severity of her actions while on the phone with a family member. She was subsequently arrested for felony fleeing and eluding. Here at Blue Line Lens, we aim to provide full transparency into these critical encounters and the public records behind them. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
