Fifteen years after he disappeared, a man knocked on his mother's door at 2:30 in the morning. On September 5, 1982, 12-year-old Johnny Gosch left home before dawn in West Des Moines, Iowa to deliver his Sunday newspaper route. He took his dog, a miniature dachshund named Gretchen, and his red wagon. A neighbor saw him talking to a man in a blue car. Then he was gone. His wagon was still on the sidewalk. His dog came home alone. Johnny's face became one of the first ever printed on a milk carton. His mother, Noreen Gosch, fought for years — lobbying lawmakers, founding the Johnny Gosch Foundation, and pushing through state legislation requiring immediate police response to reports of missing children. In March 1997, Noreen said a man knocked on her apartment door at 2:30am. She recognized him by a birthmark on his chest. He told her he'd been kidnapped by a pedophile ring, sold, and eventually cast aside. He was living under an assumed identity. He stayed ninety minutes and looked to an unidentified man beside him for permission to speak. He told her not to tell anyone — it wasn't safe. She has not seen him since. Johnny's father, divorced from Noreen since 1993, has publicly stated he's not sure the visit happened. Police have never confirmed it. In 2006, photographs of bound boys were left on Noreen's doorstep. She identified one as Johnny. Police investigated but could not confirm. As of 2026, no arrests. Johnny Gosch would be 56 years old. The case is cold but remains open. If you have information: FBI Des Moines at 515-223-4278 or West Des Moines PD. Subscribe — GraveFile TV. These cases don't close.
