At approximately 7:45 p.m., officers were dispatched after a 911 caller reported an intoxicated man armed with a knife who was threatening people inside a nearby grocery store. Officers from the Cactus Park Precinct responded and quickly located the suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Jon David Brouseau, as he walked through the parking lot. Multiple bystanders pointed officers toward Brouseau as he moved through the area. One officer made contact and immediately observed that Brouseau was holding a knife. The officer issued repeated verbal commands, ordering him to drop the weapon. Brousseau refused to comply and made verbal threats toward the officer. Over the course of nearly a minute, he continued advancing while still armed. The situation escalated when Brouseau suddenly charged toward the officer with the knife. In response, the officer discharged her service weapon, striking him. The incident was captured on the officer’s body camera as well as on cellphone recordings from witnesses at the scene. Additional officers arrived shortly afterward, secured Brouseau in handcuffs, and rendered medical aid until emergency personnel took over. Brousseau survived his injuries and was later charged with aggravated assault. No officers or members of the public were injured during the incident. The involved officer, who had approximately one year of service, was assigned to the Cactus Park Precinct at the time of the shooting.
