While on routine patrol, Officers observed a car commit a traffic violation. The Akron Police Officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Kent St/ S Case Ave, and the vehicle sped off southbound. The vehicle ignored the lights and sirens and led the police on a pursuit throughout multiple residential streets. The vehicle also ignored stop signs and a traffic control device while in pursuit. The vehicle came to a stop just south of the the intersection of 2nd Ave/ Fuller St. The driver (Heather) and front right passenger (Shauntel), exited the vehicle and fled on foot while the rear passenger (Taylor) remained in the vehicle. Heather fled westbound before running into a wooded area. She ignored multiple verbal commands to stop running before officers caught up to her. Once officers reached her, she stopped running and officers placed her into custody. After she was placed into custody, Heather stated she swallowed Fentanyl. Heather was transported to Akron City Hospital. She was seen by hospital staff for several hours before hospital staff discharged her. Hospital staff did not find evidence that she was suffering from a Fentanyl overdose like she portrayed and discharged her at approximately. While Under Miranda, Heather stated she led us on a chase because she was scared and had warrants. The passenger (Shauntel) fled northbound on Fuller. He ignored multiple verbal commands to stop running. Officers observed Shauntel cross the intersection of 2nd Ave/ Fuller St and toss an object in the west-facing grass area on River Ave. Officers continued to chase Shauntel North on Fuller Ave. Officers and the K-9 unit apprehended Shauntel in the East grass area of Fuller Ave. Officers discovered that the object that Shauntel tossed was a fully loaded Glock 43x. Officers read Shauntel his Miranda Rights and declined to speak with us. Shauntel was transported to Akron City Hospital. Taylor remained in the vehicle while officers apprehended Heather and Shauntel. Under Miranda, Taylor stated she did not know why Heather did not stop for the police or why Heather and Shauntel fled. She was released. During a tow inventory, officers found a glass pipe with residue in the driver's door. Shauntel has a previous felony drug charge (conviction date of 01/24/2003). After Shauntel was discharged from the hospital, he was sent to Summit County Jail for Obstructing Official Business, Resisting Arrest, CCW, and Weapons Under Disability. Heather was cited for her traffic offenses and sent to Summit County Jail for Failure to Comply, Obstructing Official Business, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
