On September 5th, 2023, officers in Albuquerque responded to a Days Inn after reports of bloody footprints in the hallway led them to a motel room where a man had been brutally murdered. The victim had been stabbed more than eighty times, indicating an extremely violent and personal attack. Surveillance footage later showed Angel Salazar leaving the room covered in blood along with another man, Justin Antonio Vargas. During questioning, Salazar claimed she was only a witness, but detectives found major inconsistencies in her story. On October 16th, 2025, she was formally **charged with felony murder, second-degree murder, and tampering with evidence** in connection with the killing.
