A welfare call. A man barricaded in his own home. And thirty hours where the only goal was making sure everyone walked away alive. On March 11, 2023, CMPD officers responded to a residence in the Steele Creek area after multiple 911 calls reported a man threatening his neighbors and police. Officers already knew him — this address had seen 46 prior police responses, and CMPD's crisis response team had been involved with him 13 times before. What followed was a more than 30-hour standoff. SWAT was activated. Crisis negotiators worked through the night. At one point, the man stepped into the doorway holding a handgun — a SWAT officer fired one round, missed, and the standoff continued for almost a full day more before it ended peacefully. This is the body-worn camera and drone footage CMPD released to the public — by court order — showing exactly how that resolution happened. ⚠️ No criminal charges were filed against the subject or the officer involved. CMPD's Internal Affairs Division and Homicide Unit both reviewed the shooting and ruled it justified. The subject was transported for mental health treatment, not prosecution. 📁 Chapters: 0:00 – Cold open 0:20 – Disclaimer 0:37 – The Call 1:51 – The History 2:10 – SWAT Responds 3:24 – The Doorway 4:28 – Through the Night 5:32 – The Resolution 6:36 – The Outcome 7:40 – Outro 🎥 Footage & official briefing: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, released by court order following a court petition.
