For Sergeant David Varquette and his Black Lab, Nushka, a new program in the US Army would test their courage and form a bond that would last a lifetime. They would deploy to Afghanistan and be tasked with finding improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that others couldn't. Together, they navigated a dangerous landscape, with one mission bringing them to a life-or-death moment when David stood on a pressure plate covering over 600 pounds of explosives. Nushka's remarkable sense of smell and their unwavering trust in each other led to countless lives being saved. The constant exposure to a combat zone, however, took its toll. Nushka began showing signs of post-traumatic stress, but her story didn't end there. They were able to retire and live together, helping each other heal from the invisible wounds of war. This is the story of a man and his dog who endured unimaginable challenges and found peace by helping each other heal.
