On March 13, 2025, Las Cruces Police Officers responded to a vandalism call involving a 44-year-old woman wearing a cheetah print outfit. Officer Prieto located the woman, who was agitated and made threatening statements. The woman was also carrying a screwdriver in one hand. The woman was able to walk in between two walls and make her way in the backyard of a trailer home. When additional officers arrived, they ordered the woman to surrender, but she failed to comply. Officer Valenzuela discharged his taser at the woman, which was effective in getting her to the ground so that she could be detained. Officer Prieto then responded to the trailer home that had been vandalized and took photographs of the damage. The woman was charged with felony assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and criminal damage to property. Her case remains open. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
