On December 2, 2023, Bowling Green Police Officers were out of their vehicles talking to a man suspected of being drunk in public. While they were chatting with this man, a Honda SUV crashed into the back of the one of police vehicles and drove off. Officer Wright gave chase and the vehicle pulled over about a block away. The vehicle was being driven by a 25-year-old Bowling Green State University (BGSU) faculty member, who apparently had a couple of male students in the vehicle with her. She admitted to consuming alcohol and was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of those tests, she was arrested for DUI and hit and run (called "hit skip" in Ohio). She was transported to the police station, where she submitted to an evidential breath test (EBT). The result of the EBT was 0.212% BAC. In an unusual move for Ohio, she was transported to the "Justice Center" (the County Jail), where she spent 2 days before being able to bail out. Her charges and the outcome of her case (including the status of her employment with the university) are discussed at the end of the video.
