```text He called 911 because his SUV was stuck. He needed help. Instead, the encounter ended in tragedy — followed by a $19 million settlement and a three-year prison sentence for the responding deputy. In this episode, I break down two original bodycam perspectives to examine what officers knew, the instructions they gave, and the decisions that changed everything. I cover the safety concerns officers raised, their attempts to communicate, and the defense’s argument that Andrew Buen acted to protect another officer. I’ll walk you through the footage, explain why the full sequence matters, and separate the criminal outcome from the civil settlement. 📘 Get my Know Your Rights Playbook: https://rightsplaybook.gumroad.com/l/know-your-rights-playbook Inside, you’ll find encounter checklists, records-request and complaint templates, and practical language for asserting your rights. Andrew Buen was convicted in February 2025 and sentenced to three years in prison on April 14, 2025. The separate $19 million civil settlement was announced in May 2023 and involved Clear Creek County, the State of Colorado, Georgetown and Idaho Springs. It was not a personal payment by Buen or a jury damages award. I have omitted the most distressing portion of the encounter and its aftermath. I explain the outcome using the documented record. Camera changes and source-time jumps are labeled; some quiet or overlapping dialogue cannot be reliably captioned.
