On July 24th, 2023, a University of Illinois officer observed an unoccupied vehicle parked in a no-parking zone in Champaign, Illinois. As the officer gave the vehicle owner the parking citation, she would not roll her window down more than a couple of inches, causing the officer to open the driver's side door mistakenly, causing the scene to escalate. The vehicle owner, Nikita, was charged with felony aggravated battery to an officer, misdemeanor resisting/obstructing an officer, and a citation for improper parking on the roadway.
