On October 3, 2025 at approximately 10:50 AM, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, on Pioneer Trail, a police officer working a hit-and-run crash investigation observed 19-year-old Tara Ashley Palmieri speeding past the scene in a Mustang. According to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, the officer gestured for Palmieri to stop. Instead of slowing down, police say she accelerated past the officer at a high rate of speed, ignored commands to pull over, and continued driving aggressively. Investigators allege Palmieri passed multiple vehicles in a no-passing zone and drove in a manner that forced the officer to avoid stepping into the roadway to prevent being struck. Minutes later, officers located the Mustang parked in a nearby neighborhood, with the hood still warm. Police then tracked the vehicle to a residence, where they made contact with Palmieri. What followed was a tense confrontation captured on full police bodycam footage, as officers questioned her about the incident and explained the seriousness of the situation. Palmieri was arrested for fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, a felony offense in the state of Florida. A felony conviction can carry long-term consequences, including the potential loss of eligibility for professional licensing — placing Palmieri’s future nursing career at risk. In this video, you’ll see: • The initial police response and attempted stop • Bodycam footage documenting the alleged fleeing incident • Officers locating the parked vehicle • The confrontation and arrest • How a single decision escalated into felony charges Her bond was set at $2,500, and she was later released after a family member posted bail. Her court date was scheduled for December 2, 2025. As of now, there is no further publicly available information regarding the final outcome of the case.
