On September 22, 2023, Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Teets observed a vehicle driving with no headlights. She initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and soon learned at the 20-year-old driver had an outstanding warrant for larceny. After questioning the passenger, Officer Teets learned that the two had been drinking at a nearby bar, even though the driver was not old enough to be drinking. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest resulted in the discovery of numerous open containers of alcohol. The driver, who was already in the backseat of the police car due to the warrant, was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. However, she refused to submit to testing. In addition to the warrant, the woman was arrested for DUI, underage drinking, open containers, and driving without headlights. She subsequently entered a diversion program for the larceny charge and all of the alcohol related offenses were dismissed.
