Officers in Corrales, New Mexico responded to a reported crash after a witness watched a driver lose control, slide across the road, and slam into a culvert, right outside their home. The driver climbed out and immediately fled on foot down a nearby ditch bank while witnesses chased him and called 911. Officers located the man on the ground in a ditch — nearly unable to stand, slurred speech, red watery eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. A white powdery substance was clearly visible on his nose throughout the entire encounter. He refused to identify himself. He refused chemical testing. His fiancée told officers he had been drinking since 6AM. She also told them what the white powder was. He had no valid driver's license and no insurance.
