In October 2024, Westminster police arrested Tate Drane, 27, the dean of students at Mountain Range High School. Days earlier, a student had reported him through Safe2Tell, Colorado's anonymous tip line. He had started at the school that August and also coached in the Adams 12 district. Police say that during a weekend sleepover, Drane sent an underage girl 13 explicit photos of himself on Snapchat with sexual captions and asked her to send nude photos back. Investigators also said he had sexually assaulted the same girl when she was in middle school, though she never reported it at the time. The district put him on leave right away. Drane later took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to two felonies: attempted sexual assault on a child, and child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop three other felony charges, including internet sexual exploitation of a child.
