In September 2024, Alaska Wildlife Troopers were on patrol checking hunters. They inspected a pair of hunters who stated they had shot an undersized moose and did not have any cell service to report it. It was later determined that the hunters had multiple opportunities to report their mistake but did not and instead were going to try to take it home and decide what to do there. The hunter was charged with taking a moose out of season and illegal possession/transportation. He had to pay $4,020.00 in fines and restitution.
