On October 2, 2026, a traffic stop escalated into a vehicle pursuit involving a white U-Haul truck in Independence County, Arkansas. According to the incident report, the driver, identified as Casey Whalen, was initially observed traveling 61 MPH in a posted 45 MPH zone before allegedly swerving between lanes and failing to stop for law enforcement. The pursuit continued southbound along Batesville Boulevard, with speeds reaching approximately 64 MPH. An officer attempted a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI), with the second attempt successfully making contact with the U-Haul. The vehicles struck a mailbox and curb before the U-Haul rolled onto its driver’s side and came to rest off the roadway. After the crash, the officer and an assisting Independence County deputy helped Whalen exit the overturned truck. The report states that officers detected the odor of alcohol, observed watery eyes, and found four beer cans inside the vehicle. Two dogs were also inside the U-Haul. Whalen was arrested and later underwent standardized field sobriety testing at the county jail. According to the report, she displayed multiple clues during the tests and refused both a preliminary breath test and a subsequent chemical test. Authorities listed several potential charges, including felony fleeing by vehicle, driving while intoxicated, careless and prohibited driving, speeding more than 15 MPH over the limit, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and an open container violation. The report also states that the case was being referred to the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force for assistance with filing felony charges. The crash resulted in an estimated $2,882 in damage to the patrol vehicle and $250 in damage to a property owner's mailbox and post. The U-Haul also sustained damage. This video covers the reported pursuit, the crash, the driver's arrest, and the charges listed in the incident report. All allegations should be considered in light of the legal process, and the charges do not constitute a finding of guilt.
