🚨 Fast speeds, slick roads, and K9 tracking in the snow — Buchanan & DeKalb Counties (February 20, 2025) MSHP Trooper J. Schmedding attempted a traffic stop on a black Nissan Sentra after clocking it at 53 mph in a 40 on North Belt Highway in St. Joseph. The driver — Jeffrey D. Gross (32) — immediately accelerated, ran multiple red lights, and fled east on Frederick Ave, shutting off his headlights and weaving into oncoming lanes. The pursuit continued onto Missouri 6, where Gross pushed speeds over 100 mph, crossed into opposing lanes, and ignored all signals. Troopers followed into rural DeKalb County as the Sentra continued driving dark, reckless, and at extreme speeds. Gross entered Clarksdale at high speed, blew the stop sign at Route P & Main Street, and crashed after striking a light pole and ditch. He fled on foot into a residential area. MSHP Trooper Neely deployed K9 Aron, who tracked Gross through snow to a residence. After warnings, Gross surrendered from under a porch and was taken into custody without further incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue, and the Sentra showed airbag deployment consistent with Gross being the sole occupant. Gross was transported to the Buchanan County Law Enforcement Center on a 24‑hour investigative hold. Multiple charges were forwarded to Buchanan and DeKalb County prosecutors. 📌 Charges (Filed / Forwarded) - Sentencing at end of video. 🚔 Aggravated Fleeing a Stop or Detention (Felony) 🚔 Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) – Felony 🚔 Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Felony 🚔 Exceeded Posted Speed Limit (26+ mph over) 🚔 Failed to Drive on Right Half of Roadway 🚔 Failed to Signal 🚔 Failed to Stop at Steady Red Signal 🚔 Headlights Not Activated 🔧 Evidence & Damage Meth pipe recovered from vehicle KCPL utility pole damaged (~$1,000) Minor damage to a 2009 GMC Sierra (victim vehicle) 0:00 Chase begins 6:10 Route P 11:20 That's a house 13:57 K9 Aron 18:55 Sentencing Map courtesy of GISGeography https://gisgeography.com/missouri-map/ Mugshots obtained from Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search https://web.mo.gov/doc/offSearchWeb/ Music used with permission from OneKindMusic Thick Of It (Bardcover) https://youtu.be/pFCIwuERiYc?si=bypxbvdN3725Ipkn
