On March 29, 2023, Deputy Franky Primavera of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office attempted a routine traffic stop for a vehicle with no tag light. The driver, Jerome Cole, instead decided to flee at high speeds through LaGrange, running off the road, slamming into a power pole, and knocking out the electricity for the surrounding area. After the crash, deputies found marijuana, a magnetic stash box, a suspicious blue liquid, and later — a bag of crystal methamphetamine tucked into the patrol car seat where Jerome had been riding. Jerome claimed he was "just goin’ to the store for smokes," but the vehicle had no insurance, no valid registration, and he didn't even know the woman it was registered to. He later admitted he’d been drinking and had no license. The car may have been stolen. Jerome Cole is no stranger to the system. In 2017, he was previously convicted in Troup County on unrelated charges…. It seems old habits die hard — but this time, he left meth in the backseat of a sheriff's car.
