On Friday, May 5, 2023, an officer initiated a traffic stop on a black SUV after observing it swerve out of its lane and into oncoming traffic. The driver, who smelled heavily of intoxicants and had heavily slurred speech, repeatedly refused commands to step out of the vehicle after being told she was under arrest for DUI. Officers eventually had to open the door to assist her out and secure her in handcuffs. After she was transported to the station for processing, the suspect managed to slip her hands out of the handcuffs and used them as a weapon. A violent physical struggle ensued in the holding area, during which the suspect actively resisted, threw herself to the ground, and repeatedly kicked and punched an officer while screaming death threats. Additional officers intervened to safely restrain her. Furthermore, a loaded .380 caliber handgun was recovered from the driver's door of her vehicle during impound. The suspect was booked into the county jail and charged with 3rd Degree Assault on a Police Officer, DUI, and Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer.
