On May 17 2026, Officers from the Boynton Beach Police Department responded to a local Walmart to investigate a possible attempted child abduction. Upon arrival, police met with two teen girls who told the officers a man had approached them and asked if they wanted to earn one hundred dollars. Surveillance video from Walmart showed the girls leaving the store and a white Ford Excursion pulling into a parking space nearby, while later video showed the girls running back toward the store for safety. Investigators reviewed additional surveillance footage that showed the suspect walking through Walmart without buying anything while allegedly following the girls through several departments, including cosmetics, electronics, and crafts. Twenty six year old Mitchell Clark was later identified as the perpetrator and was approached by officers at his apartment the following day for questioning. After detectives interviewed Clark at his residence, police say he admitted seeing and speaking to the girls. According to the affidavit, Clark acknowledged the girls appeared to be “middle school age” and admitted asking them if they wanted $100. After his arrest, police wrote that Clark initially claimed he offered the money because the girls “were scared,” before later saying he “made a mistake,” “did something stupid,” and acted because he had “lost his mind.” The affidavit also noted that Clark has previously been investigated in several unrelated incidents around Palm Beach County, including three separate allegations of lewd behavior in public in front of children.
