Incident: On March 15th, 2024, at approximately 11:00 PM, Chesterfield Township Police officers were dispatched to assist New Baltimore Police officers following an assault on Main Street. Prior to their arrival, a New Baltimore officer had already been assaulted and thrown to the ground by the suspect. When Chesterfield officers arrived on scene, they encountered the suspect actively resisting commands. Officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, but he continued to resist, leading to multiple taser deployments that proved ineffective. The situation escalated into a tense standoff, with officers maintaining distance while issuing commands at taser and firearm point. After several moments of non-compliance, the suspect ultimately complied and was taken into custody without further incident. Charges & Outcome: The suspect was transported to the New Baltimore Police Department, where he was charged with assault related to the initial altercation, as well as assaulting and resisting/obstructing police. He was later lodged at the Macomb County Jail and issued a $5,000 bond with a 10% provision, set by Judge Jennifer Faunce. The suspect subsequently posted bond for $500. The initial assault charge was later dismissed. However, the assaulting and resisting police charge was upheld, and he was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to complete an anger management program.
