On May 9, 2024, Melina Logan, 27, visited Honda of South Miami to test drive a 2024 Honda Civic. When the salesperson stepped out, Logan drove off. Florida Highway Patrol located the stolen Civic on the Palmetto Expressway and initiated a stop. Logan refused and led FHP on a 19-minute, 90 mph pursuit through Miami-Dade County. The dashcam, released in full and uncut by FHP, captures Logan sideswiping barriers, using the shoulder as a travel lane, and causing an FHP cruiser to collide with another FHP unit. The chase ended when Logan hit standstill traffic near Doral, crashed into three vehicles, exited through the passenger window, and jumped into a retention pond with her arms out. She refused safety ropes. Two officers entered the water and arrested her. Logan was charged with grand theft auto, aggravated fleeing and eluding, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, and resisting an officer.
