An officer working security at Walmart was called to the loss-prevention office after employees stopped a woman leaving self-checkout with unpaid merchandise. Surveillance showed her scanning and paying for some items while bagging others without scanning them. The unpaid items were valued at $489.30. Inside the office, she denied stealing and repeatedly asked employees to compare the merchandise with her receipts. Officers also began questioning the ID she had provided after noticing the photograph did not appear to match her. She was arrested, but the situation continued outside. She resisted getting into the patrol vehicle, kicked the door, pulled one hand out of the handcuffs, and fought officers as they tried to secure her again. Rescue personnel were called after she complained that she could not breathe, and she was taken to the hospital for an evaluation before going to jail. She was charged with retail theft, resisting an officer without violence, providing a false name, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child. She later pleaded guilty to all five charges and received 41 days in jail with credit for time already served. Court costs totaled $1,077.
