A late-night traffic stop for erratic driving quickly escalates as an officer suspects impairment, leading to a series of revealing tests. At approximately 4:18 AM, an officer observed a vehicle driving erratically, crossing the center line, nearly rear-ending another car, and speeding. This prompted a traffic stop on a dimly lit street. The driver, a young adult woman, initially denied consuming alcohol despite exhibiting incoherent behavior and the odor of alcohol. When asked to perform an eye check, the officer noted a lack of smooth pursuit, prompting further investigation. Following the initial indicators, the officer called for backup and administered field sobriety exercises, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand tests, which the driver failed. A subsequent Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.125%. Based on the failed tests and PBT results, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence. Later at a facility, after waiving her rights and admitting to driving impaired, a breathalyzer test confirmed a BAC of 0.111%, exceeding the legal limit.
