A northbound car smashed into a parked vehicle's driver-side mirror. They heard the crash. Officers whipped into a U-turn. They saw a 2017 Nissan Rogue parked there. Its driver mirror hung broken. Northbound now, they spotted a white 2015 Honda Pilot. The driver swung toward West Grove Street and Carleton Road. She pulled over. She stepped out and stumbled. She tried to fix her passenger mirror. Officers approached her. They dug deeper. She was 23-year-old Abigail Moreno. Her passenger mirror showed damage. Her breath reeked of alcohol. Abigail said she headed home. No drinks that night, she swore. Sober six months, too. Officer Bace tracked down the Nissan owner. Officers suspected drunk driving. They asked for field sobriety tests. She flunked them. Arrest followed for operating under the influence. A car search turned up booze in a metal bottle. They impounded the Honda. Twelve-hour hold under John's Law. First stop: Westfield for processing. Officer Martinez read the motor vehicle statement. Abigail agreed to breath tests. Westfield's machine failed. They drove her to Union County Police. Alcotest hit 0.15% BAC. Double the 0.08% limit. Processing done, they released her to a sober adult. She signed the liability warning. Court date loomed.
