A routine airport dispute quickly turned into an arrest after airline staff reported an alleged bomb threat. On August 20, 2023, officers responded to Tampa International Airport after a passenger became upset over her flight and baggage situation. According to airline staff, the woman had allegedly said that if she wasn't given a seat on an overseas flight, she would “blow this place up.” Staff immediately denied her boarding and informed management, with the possibility of her being placed on a no-fly list. The situation escalated when the passenger reportedly refused to leave after being denied boarding. Officers explained that because she no longer had a valid boarding pass, she could not remain in the area and would need to leave the terminal. The woman strongly denied making the alleged threat. She explained that she was frustrated about paying $104 for baggage and claimed airline employees had been hostile toward her. Officers listened to her side but repeatedly explained that certain statements cannot be dismissed as simple frustration—especially inside an airport. Police then explained that the reported statement had to be taken seriously, that the FBI would be notified, and that she was probably going to be arrested. Despite insisting that she had never been arrested before and denying that she made the threat, the situation ended with criminal charges.
