On October 2, 2024, in Del Norte County, California Highway officers observed a blue Buick Lacrosse crossing over the double solid lines on Highway 199 near mile post marker 1.5. Officers initiated a traffic stop and conducted a field sobriety test due to driver exhibiting signs of intoxication and the odor of alcohol emanating from him. The driver was identified as Is Ismael Hernandez-Rodriguez through his Mexico-issued ID card. Hernandez did not have a driver's license. After failing field sobriety test Hernandez was placed under arrest and administered two Preliminary Alcohol Screening breath test, which yielded results of .13% and .14%. Hernandez was subsequently transported to Sutter Coast Hospital for a blood draw before being booked into the Del Norte County Jail the following charges: 23152 - (A/B) DUI Alcohol W/BAC above .08 12500 - (A) Drive W/O License California Highway Patrol Officers involved: Officer D.
