Florida Fish and Wildlife (FWC) officers contacted a vessel on May 27, 2023 to conduct a resource inspection. Once onboard, the officer noticed a dolphin (mahi) that appeared to be undersized. After measuring, the fish was approximately 1.5 inches short of the legal limit. The captain was cited for the small fish and given a warning for not being a registered charter vessel. Official report below: On May 27, 2023 I Ofc. David Moss along with Ofc. Zachary Dudas and Lt. Edwin Harp of The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) were on water patrol in Palm Beach Inlet. At approximately 1330hrs I Stopped a 25' center console fishing vessel with multiple fishing rods and several people on board for a fisheries inspection. After stopping the Vessel Ofc. Dudas identified himself as law enforcement and boarded the vessel (FL1486JJ) to complete a fisheries inspection. After the inspection Ofc. Dudas found a dolphin in the cooler. It looked under the legal limit so I measured the fish. It was 19'' which is under the minimum 20'' legal requirement. The operator of the vessel Rudolph M. Neumann was found to be in possession of one undersized dolphin. Rudolph also advised that he was being payed as a fishing charter captain and the other subjects were paying for this service. The vessel was not registered commercial. I explained to Rudolph that he needed to register the vessel commercial if he is going to use it in his charter business. Rudolph was issued a citation for the undersized dolphin and a property receipt which he signed. he was also issued a warning for his vessel not being registered commercial. The dolphin was submitted into evidence at the Jupiter compound.
