On the night of 18 May 2021, Jamie Fulton died on Westerville Road in Blendon Township, on the north-east side of Columbus, Ohio. Two weeks later her boyfriend, Antoine Phillips, sat down with a police lieutenant and told him the last place he saw her alive. He did not know what the lieutenant had already watched. This is that recording. CHAPTERS 0:00 “I’m being blamed for her murder” 1:20 Two years 2:57 The walk, as he tells it 7:17 “I have video” 20:19 The rest of the folder 26:54 The record SOURCES Interview recording: Blendon Township Police Department body camera, 1 June 2021 (public record, via Controversial Crimes Media on YouTube; the camera's own on-screen stamp is blurred in our picture). The full recording, uncut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfbeBsZpuK0 Court record: State v. Phillips, 2025-Ohio-4555 (Ohio Court of Appeals, Tenth District, 30 September 2025). The trial testimony and the description of the surveillance video quoted in this film are taken from that opinion. News reports: NBC4 / WCMH Columbus, 19 May 2021 and 6 September 2023 (excerpts, credited on screen). Her brother's words: ABC6 / WSYX, 20 January 2022. Aerial imagery: Google Earth (recent imagery, shown dark; positions drawn on it are approximate and no home is marked). The recordings are real and nothing said in them has been altered. The interview is shortened and arranged in order; every jump in the recording is marked on screen. The surveillance video described in the interview is not shown and is not re-created. Maps, routes, clocks, labels and typeset lines are graphics made for this film. What he says about her that night is his account; the court record is set beside it. Passages of the interview about unrelated matters are left out. No person's likeness was generated. Narration is a synthetic voice reading our script. What the court decided is at the end of the film. The Denial Tapes: the tape, with the record beside it. Subscribe for the next tape.
