On February 19, 2024, officers with the Key West Police Department responded to a call for a woman, later identified as a 29-year-old named Alleigha. According to a Starbucks employee, Alleigha was causing a disturbance, attempting to take drinks from other customers, and did not pay for her order. Alleigha contends that she was only going to the restroom and was a guest at the motel. After arriving at the jail, she engaged a supervisor to voice her concerns. Alleigha was charged with petit theft, disorderly conduct on the premises of an establishment, and 3 counts of resist/obstructing an officer without violence. According to the report, the first resisting/obstructing charge was for the initial contact, the second was for attempting to get away while in the back of the cop car, and the third was for failing to provide her full identity.
