Full Report: On 8/17/2024, I, Deputy Jones, was conducting traffic enforcement along Hwy 138 SE @ Scarlett Dr. As I was doing this, I observed a black SUV appearing to move at a high rate of speed towards me. Seeing this, I clocked the vehicle's speed with a LIDAR device and it measured the vehicle's speed at 61 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone. Upon observing this, I pulled out and attempted to stop the speeding vehicle, a black Acura MDX bearing tag CXQ4873, by activating my emergency lights. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Bryan Hunter, then stopped in the middle of the intersection of Hwy 138 SE and Jonesboro Rd, presumably because the traffic signal was red. At this point, I used the public address system and instructed the driver to proceed through the light when it was clear. Hunter did so, but as he turned onto Jonesboro Rd, he made no attempt to pull over and stop. In fact, he did the opposite and increased speed to around 65 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. As speeds continued to increase, I realized that the suspect was attempting to flee from me. I then notified the dispatch that I was in pursuit. As the pursuit continued down Jonesboro Rd, Hunter was observed reaching speeds of up to 90 MPH. Seeing this, I began making preparations to utilize a PIT maneuver in order to end the pursuit as quickly and as safely as possible. However, Hunter observed me closing in and aggressively brake-checked me in an attempt to thwart the PIT. After this, he continued north on Jonesboro Rd towards Mt Zion Rd. As we approached Mt Zion Rd, Hunter suddenly crossed from the left turning lane all the way to the right turning lane without using a turn signal. He then failed to stop for the red light and made an improper lane change while turning from Jonesboro Rd onto Mt Zion Rd. As we continued east on Mt Zion Rd, Hunter began driving much faster and more aggressively, reaching speeds of 105 to 110 MPH. At one point, the suspect hit a bump in the road and, because of his speed, he began to lose control of his vehicle, fishtailing all the way down to the next intersection nearly crashing into a traffic island. Hunter was then just able to regain control of his car and continued his effort to escape. Hunter continued driving recklessly until eventually leading deputies to a house (2438 BRIGHTEN TRL) where he stopped in the driveway. Deputies were then able to take Hunter into custody without further incident. During a GCIC check, it was discovered that Hunter's DL had been suspended in 2023 for FTA. When we arrived at the jail, I informed Hunter of his rights and then asked him why he fled from me. He then admitted to me that he only ran because he knew his DL was suspended.
