On Saturday, June 22, 2024, at approximately 11:40 PM, Arkansas State Police Trooper Lazenby was patrolling State Highway (SH) 18 near Big Lake when he observed a white Crysler 300 traveling west bound. Trooper Lazenby activated his radar and received a reading of 68-mph in a 60-mph zone. He activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop on SH 18, near Big Lake. He made contact with the 19-year-old driver, identified as Jayden, and advised him of the reason for the stop. Trooper Lazenby asked Jayden for his driver's license, proof of insurance, and registration. Jayden proceeded to inform Trooper Lazenby that he had just been fired from his job and that his tags were expired. During this time, Trooper Lazenby observed the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. He asked Jayden if there were any illegal drugs inside of the vehicle, at which time Jayden produced a small red Swisher Sweets bag containing a small amount of marijuana. Trooper Lazenby observed Layden to be overly nervous, rapidly tapping his leg after asking him to shut his car off. He seized the marijuana and asked Jayden to step out of the vehicle to conduct a probable cause search. At that time, Jayden nervously started his vehicle back up and turned his head lights off. Jayden was instructed to turn his vehicle off, but he accelerated off, fleeing west on SH 18. Trooper Lazenby returned to his patrol unit and began to give chase. Jayden quickly reached speeds in excess of 100-miles per hour, passing two vehicles. As Jayden neared Big Lake, he reached speeds of 145- miles per hour, but slowed to 120- miles per hour, negotiating the curve. Trooper Lazenby was able to move in and perform a successful Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), causing Jayden to leave the right side of the roadway, traveling into a nearby field. Jayden was then taken into custody without further incident and after being checked out by Emerson Ambulance Service, he was transported to the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department where he was charged accordingly. Once at the jail, Jayden was read his DWI advise of rights and agreed to give a urine sample to be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis.
