Report as Follow: Monday, September 27, 2021 I, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Officer Kymbra Brashear was patrolling in a fully marked NMSP patrol unit (188). At approximately 6:50 p.m. NMSP Southern Communications- Las Cruces assigned me to an assist agency call. The information attached to the call was to be on the lookout (BOLO) for a white 2013 Ford F150 displaying Texas registration NGX7513. The suspect vehicle was believed to be driven by Kionne Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a suspect for a homicide in Texas and was possibly armed with a rifle. The vehicle Mr. Lewis was driving had crashed into an NMSP patrol unit near Vaughn, NM, and was believed to be traveling South on US 285 towards Roswell, New Mexico. At approximately 7:29 p.m. I was traveling north on US 285 near mile marker 143 in Chaves County, NM. I observed a white pickup traveling south on US 285 with no headlights. I turned around and caught up to the pickup which was in the outside lane of travel. As I approached the pickup, I confirmed it matched the description of the BOLO vehicle. I notified NMSP Southern Communications of my location, observation of the pickup, and continued following it. I activated my emergency equipment (lights and sirens) to attempt to pull the pickup over. The driver failed to stop the pickup and a pursuit ensued. The traffic on US 285 was light with minimal vehicles on the roadway. Each time the fleeing pickup would approach another vehicle, the driver, who was later identified as Kionne Lewis (DOB 1992), would get less than one car length away from the other vehicle. The pursuit continued south on US 285 with speeds ranging from within 90-101 miles per hour (MPH). NMSP Officer Marcus Gonzales and NMSP Officer Jose Medina joined in the pursuit behind me. Near mile marker 133, Mr. Lewis drove the pickup off the west shoulder of US 285 and into a pasture. There was a large cloud of dust and I was unable to follow the pickup. Officer Gonzales, Medina, and I drove parallel on the highway until we were able to obtain a visual. Approximately 200 yards from where the truck left the shoulder of the roadway the vehicle had come to a stop. We continued to keep visual on the vehicle until other units and the NMSP Tactical Response Team (NMSP Tac Team) arrived at the scene. Once the NMSP Tac Team arrived on the scene I drove my patrol unit closer to the suspect pickup while using my unit as cover for the NMSP Tac Team to approach. The NMSP Tac Team Officers used a "flash-bang" and approached the vehicle. The vehicle was cleared and Mr. Lewis was not in sight. The search for Mr. Lewis continued throughout the night with multiple agencies searching the area. I was later relieved of my duties while other officers continued to search. The Searched Continued Through the night, until NMSP recived a call that Ranchers had Lewis Detained. The Full Arrest of the suspect will be posted in the next video this week.
