In August 2023, the Broward County Sheriff's Office arrested 21-year-old Trayon Morgan of Lauderhill, Florida and 38-year-old Roy Blackwood of Sunrise, Florida after an eight-month investigation revealed the pair had stolen over $1 million from Uber Eats through an elaborate fraud scheme that exploited a flaw in the app's grocery pickup system. Beginning in January 2022, Morgan allegedly used the Uber Eats platform to act as both the customer and the courier — placing large grocery orders under fake accounts, accepting those same orders as the driver to receive a preloaded Uber credit card worth up to $700 per transaction, canceling the customer's order, and then walking into a Walgreens to spend the credit on gift cards instead of groceries.  ––– Disclaimer: This video is a dramatization based on real events.
