Houston police responded to reports of a man armed with a rifle firing at passing vehicles near North Wayside Drive and St. Louis Street. Bodycam footage shows officers moving into position, trying to locate 45-year-old Demetri O’Neal Thomas as multiple angles provide only limited views of the front porch where he was located. After officers gave repeated commands, gunfire erupted. Three Houston Police officers and a Texas DPS trooper discharged their weapons. Thomas was taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and later recovered. Three other people were also wounded after shots were fired at their vehicles. All three were reported in stable condition, and no officers were injured. Thomas was charged with four counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was denied bond and is expected back in court in October. ⚠️ Warning: This video contains real police bodycam footage and may include scenes that some viewers find disturbing.
