As the group prepared to leave, the officers made contact. Though each of the over 200 bass were illegal based on the method to catch them and the lack of fishing licenses, each angler received 25 charges. Each individual was charged with one count of fishing without a license and 24 counts of taking fish by illegal means for using a cast net to catch them. In Texas, taking fish by illegal method typically carries a $500 fine and the fishing without a license charge is around $150. The state also went after restitution, which is typically $50 per white bass. Unfortunately, this county does not have publicly available records, so we are unable to determine the exact outcome of their cases.
