This bodycam footage shows a wildlife officer investigating suspicious behavior near a small bridge. He finds a group spear fishing. It is illegal to spearfish within 100 yards of a public swimming beach, any commercial or public fishing pier, or any part of a bridge from which public fishing is allowed. The officer escorts the group back down to the water's edge. The officer notices a speared snook hidden behind a tree. The officer walks back to the water to look for spearfishing gear that the group might have hidden. The officer notices a stringer near the bridge. After several attempts to revive the snook, the officer notices they have been speared and will not survive. They told the officer that the only fish they speared was a small sand bream. The officer will add the additional snook to the charges. All in all, the suspect is looking at two counts of illegal harvesting of snook. Fines could range from $1,500 to $3,000.
