It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On November 15, 2024, at 1:38 AM, Hoboken police went to Bloomfield Street for a car crash. A white 2017 Lexus had hit a parked car and some stairs. The driver, Margarita, and her passenger were still there. Margarita said she was coming from an event. She swerved to miss a cat and hit the steps. Police asked if she had been drinking. Margarita said she had not. But officers thought she might be drunk. Officer Bianca Arroyo came to do tests. Officer Arroyo led Margarita to the sidewalk. First, she did the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Margarita did not touch heel-to-toe. She took the wrong number of steps and turned badly. Finally, she did the One Leg Stand test. Margarita did not raise her foot right and put it down too soon. Officer Arroyo arrested Margarita for driving under the influence because of the crash and the failed tests. Her car was impounded for 12 hours under John’s Law. Police took Margarita to the station for processing. At the station, Margarita was read her rights for drivers. She would not give breath samples. Margarita said her neck hurt. She was taken to Hoboken University Medical Center (HUMC) for evaluation. Margarita got tickets for DUI, reckless driving, refusing breath samples, and not agreeing to a breath test.
