When officers arrived, 33-year-old Taiquell Woodson briefly opened the front door while holding objects in his hands. During the encounter, one officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment. Additional officers attempted to stabilize the situation, and one officer discharged his service weapon. Woodson was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away. A knife was recovered at the scene, and officers noted the injured officer’s protective vest helped reduce further harm. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
